Munch Studio

In 1916 Edvard Munch bought the 11¼ acre property Ekely, on the outskirts of Kristiania (Oslo). By 1926 he was keen to improve on the small brick studio he used for winter working, and commmissioned architect Henrik Bull to build a large new studio on the site. In 1929 it was ready, and Munch worked there until his death in 1944. Munch's Ekely house has been demolished but the studio still stands. I worked there as artist-in-residence in 2008.

The dead - how hopeless to gather that
which in life had been torn to bits. It is
as if one would try to put together a shattered
glass.

Far better go to ruination
